Ford Falcon 500 (XA).jpg

Ford Falcon (XA). 1972–3 (prod. 152,609 all types, incl. Futura and Fairmont). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon, 2-door coupé, 2-door utility, 2-door panel van. F/R, 200, 250 in³ (I6 OHV), 302, 351 in³ (V8 OHV). First all-Australian Falcon, as production had ceased in US. Larger body. Coke-bottle design reminiscent of US Fords, with wagon’s tailgate using a system from American models (it could open down or to the side). Old mechanicals, however: leaf-sprung rear axle. Base model called 500, mid-range model Futura. Fairmont (covered separately) essentially a plusher Falcon. New to range: hardtop coupé, also with overtones of US Fords such as Torino and Mustang.

Manufacturing location: Broadmeadows, Victoria, Australia

Marque: Ford | Model: Ford Falcon | Predecessor: Ford Falcon (XY) | Successor: Ford Falcon (XB)

q.v. Ford Fairmont (XA)
