Ford Fairmont (Fox). 1978–83 (prod. n/a). 2- and 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé, 5-door wagon. F/R, 140 in³ (I4 OHC), 200 in³ (I6 OHV), 255, 302 in³ (V8 OHV). Tidy, boxy replacement for Maverick on all-new Fox platform, twinned with Mercury Zephyr. Better handling than its predecessor—platform shared with 1979–93 Mustang. Coupé called Fairmont Futura. Single headlamps (except for Futura) till 1981, when four-headlamp look from Mercury adopted. Wagon deleted in 1982. Four-door sedan and coupé only in 1983, overlapping with new, renamed LTD for 1983.
