Stiffer frame and new shocks, as well as sound deadening, all aimed at making Explorer more comfortable. Interior improved, though some materials still low-grade. Improved ride and handling, though still truck-like. Revised, cleaner V6, though still lacking in power, while three-valve V8 replaced two-valve version. Fuel economy remained poor, with either engine. Road Stability Control now standard throughout range. LHD only. Twinned with [[Mercury Mountaineer (2006–10)]].
