OHV), 1392, 1597, 1998 cm³ petrol, 1753 cm³ diesel (4 cyl. OHC), 1597, 1796, 1993 cm³ (4 cyl. DOHC). Disappointing successor to Mk IV, with poor handling (the omission of a front anti-roll bar contributed to this on lesser models at launch in 1990) and uninspired styling. Overall shape was evolutionary and considered not a big enough step forward; Ford was criticized for letting its bean counters run the show. Some quality issues to boot. Replaced in Europe in 1992 by Mk VI (or Mk Vb), though Cosworth, with 1993 cm³ YBT engine, continued in much the same style to 1996. Also continued in South America, launching 1992 and also built to 1996.
Marque: Ford | Model: Ford Escort | Predecessor: Ford Escort Mk IV | Successor: Ford Escort Mk VI
