Ford Escort (Erika 86). 1986–90 (prod. unknown). 3- and 5-door saloon, 3- and 5-door estate, 2-door convertible. F/F, 997, 1392, 1596, 1781 cm³ petrol, 1753 cm³ diesel (4 cyl. OHC), 1117, 1297, 1555 cm³ (4 cyl. OHV). Facelifted version of successful Mk III, with improvements across range, including better ride and handling. Looking out of step against Opel Kadett E, though still successful thanks to Ford’s marketing strength. Optional ABS (standard on RS Turbo). Brazil had base Hobby model with 1·0, and 1·8 Volkswagen-powered petrol; main new engine in European range was the 1·4.
