Ford Escape (U204). 2000–6 (prod. n/a). 5-door SUV. F/A, 1988, 2261 cm³ petrol, 2261 cm³ petrol–electric hybrid (I4 DOHC), 2967 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Compact SUV based around a Mazda Capella (GF) platform, twinned with Mazda Tribute (2000–10). Monocoque design. Despite limited off-road ability very successful for Ford, and competent for its class. Roomy and well priced, though refinement not the best. Called Maverick in Europe. First US-built hybrid production vehicle.
