Ford EXP. 1982–5 (prod. 225,000 approx. incl. LN7 and Escort EXP). 3-door coupé. F/F, 1598 cm³ (I4 OHC). Coupé version of US Escort, with lower roofline, but also heavier—which meant the original 70 hp engine provided less than stellar performance. Quickly uprated to 80 hp from March 1982. Higher levels of equipment than Escort, and priced accordingly. Name derived from Erika Project Personal, with project cars assigned the letter X. Twinned with Mercury LN7. Turbocharged model from 1984. Notchback design originally; “bubble back” from 1984. Quality not on par with Japanese imports.
