Ford Capri (Carla). 1978–86 (prod. 1,700,000 approx. incl. Capri II, and 1,038 280). 3-door coupé. F/R, 1593, 1993 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1998, 2294, 2792, 2993 cm³ (V6 OHV). Facelifted and more aerodynamic Capri, surviving well into the 1980s on the strength of TV series The Professionals. While the Capri began being withdrawn from sale on the Continent, the Köln plant continued to supply the UK market, where the vehicle had a cult following. Three-litre V6 dropped in 1981, replaced with 2·8 Injection model. UK sales only from 1984. Basic trim level, Laser, from 1984, complementing Injection; various turbocharged models also appeared in the 1980s through official Ford dealers. Final model called the 280, with last example rolling off the production line on December 19, 1986.
