1984 Ford Bronco II.jpg

Ford Bronco II. 1984–90 (prod. 700,000 approx. sold). 3-door SUV. F/R, F/A, 2346 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 2792, 2933 cm³ (V6 OHV). Ford responds to the public’s earlier demands for smaller vehicles and downsizes the Bronco, creating a II line based on the Ranger pick-up. Rivalled Chevrolet S-10 Blazer, which came out a year earlier. Notorious for its low stability index, with its high centre of gravity and narrow track, leading Consumer Reports to issue an ‘Avoid’ in 1989. RWD-only from 1986, which had an even greater propensity to roll, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. NHTSA declined to recall the Bronco II, and Ford was still settling lawsuits over the vehicle as late as 2012.

Manufacturing location: Louisville, Kentucky, USA

Marque: Ford | Model: Ford Bronco | Successor: Ford Explorer (UN46)
