Fiat Argo (X6H). 2017 to date (prod. n/a). 5-door sedan. F/F, 999 cm³ (I3 OHC), 1332 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1747 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Fiat finally replaces the Punto as its market share slipped in Brazil, letting Chevrolet beat it into the top spot (which Fiat had held since 2003) in 2016. Argo signalled that Fiat was back, with its most significant car since the Palio, with conventional styling designed under Peter Fassbender at its Brazilian centre. MP1 platform related to outgoing Punto’s, albeit with 80 per cent new components; fun-to-drive character maintained. More rigid body (Cd 0,34), four stars on Latin NCAP test. Upsized to match rivals Chevrolet Onix and Hyundai HB20 at 4 m length and 2,521 mm wheelbase (Onix had 2,528 mm); boot space at 300 ℓ beat the competition. Firefly engines at base (1·0 and 1·3); E-Torq engine at top; HGT flagship had 1·8 but shortened final ratio on the manual. Early reports indicated excellent fit and finish inside, seven-inch touch-screen at centre of dashboard.

Manufacturing location: Betim, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Marque: Fiat | Predecessors: Fiat Punto (310), Fiat Palio (178), Fiat Palio (326)
