Fiat 770 Coupé/Fiat 800 Coupé/Fiat 800 Spider. 1965–70 (prod. 8,500 approx., incl. 1,201 Spider). 2-door saloon, 2-door convertible. R/R, 767, 797 cm³ (I4 OHV). Vignale showed three proposals on the Fiat 850 chassis in 1965: a two-door saloon, a 2+2 coupé, and a convertible. None were made in Italy, but the saloon and convertible designs were chosen by Fiat Concórd for Argentinian manufacture. The saloon, dubbed 770 Coupé, was first, with the 767 cm³ engine, and an interior similar to the 600’s, already in production. It was dressed up with a steering wheel with a wooden effect and three aluminium spokes, and courtesy lights. Higher top speed than the 600. The convertible, 800 Spider, was released in 1966 with the 797 cm³ engine, and remains Argentina’s only mass-produced convertible. Different exhaust manifold to the 600, to which were added twin exhausts; a different camshaft and gear ratios were among the other changes, and a top speed of 120 km/h was claimed. Larger-capacity coupé also from 1966. The 770 was deleted after 1966. Well equipped for the time and the market. Eventually discontinued in 1970, with royalty payments to Vignale cited as one reason; and the 600 was firmly entrenched in the subcompact segment.

Manufacturing location: El Palomar, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Marque: Fiat | Predecessor: Fiat 600 Vignalina
