Fiat 500. 1957–77 (prod. 3,893,294). 2-door saloon, 3-door estate. R/R, 479, 499, 594 cm³ (I2 OHV). Launched at the Torino show in 1957, Dante Giacosa’s nuova 500 replaced original ‘Topolino’ 500, and nicknamed Bambina by some. Original model with 479 cm³ two-cylinder and suicide doors, with nuova 500 on badging and fold-back roof option, made to 1960. Uprated 499 cm³ in 500D for 1960–9, retaining suicide doors but roof did not fold back as far. Conventional doors from 1965 with 500F or Berlina, made till 1972. Fiat 500 Lusso from 1968 with modernized interior; 594 cm³ in 500 Rinnovata from 1972 to 1975. Giardiniera estate launched 1960, built till 1977, retaining suicide doors through its run. Steyr–Puch had more powerful model built under licence.
