Fiat 124 Sport Spider. 1966–85 (prod. 198,000 approx.). 2-door convertible. F/R, 1438, 1592, 1608, 1756, 1995, 1998 cm³ (I4 DOHC). A long life for Pininfarina-styled Spider, built into the 1980s, with larger capacities to keep power up for emissions regulations in the US, which began importing them in 1968 (1·6 added 1970, 1·8 in 1974, 2·0 in 1979, and fuel injection for 1980). Shortened 124 platform, independent front suspension, live rear axle with coils, four-wheel disc brakes. Abarth Rally model gave Spider a competition history, with 900 road cars from 1973, each with the 1·8 DOHC developing 128 PS (the racing version had a 16-valve 1998 cm³ injected unit, delivering between 190 and 215 PS). US sales only from 1975 to 1981, called Pininfarina Spideramerica. European sales recommenced 1981, with Volumex supercharged 1998 cm³ model from 1983.
