1991 Eagle Premier ES Limited.jpg

Eagle Premier (X58). 1988–92 (prod. 139,051 incl. Renault Premier and Dodge Monaco). 4-door sedan. F/F, 2464 cm³ (I4 OHV), 2975 cm³ (V6 OHC). Renamed Renault Premier, after AMC takeover by Chrysler. Chrysler had a contract to buy 260,000 units of the PRV V6 engine, and felt compelled to continue offering the large sedan through the rebranded Jeep–Eagle dealerships. Four-cylinder cancelled after 1989. Refined, roomy car, technologically superior to Chrysler sedans at the time, though styling not to American tastes. Starting-point for its LH series sedans as AMC engineering chief François Castaing went to the new parent company. Twinned with Dodge Monaco (1990–2) as sales too low, but even that did not help Chrysler shift enough cars with the PRV V6, and it was cancelled in 1992.

Manufacturing location: Bramalea, Ontario, Canada

Marque: Eagle | Predecessor: Renault Premier | Successor: Eagle Vision
