1979 Dodge St Regis.jpg

Dodge St Regis (R-body). 1979–81 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan. F/R, 225 in³ (I6 OHV), 318, 360 in³ (V8 OHV). Boxy successor to Monaco, riding a 118½-inch platform related to the B-body one underpinning the Chrysler Cordoba (1975–9) and previous Monaco. Used old Chrysler trim name. Not that modern under the skin—Chrysler, staving off bankruptcy, used its parts’ bin—and not that much more fuel-efficient than its predecessor. Quality problems as with many Chrysler products of the era. Launched at the wrong time, as fuel prices rose again.

Manufacturing location: Detroit, Michigan, USA

Marque: Dodge | Predecessors: Dodge Monaco (1977–8), Dodge Royal Monaco | Successor: Dodge Diplomat (1977–89)

q.v. Chrysler Newport (1979–81), Plymouth Gran Fury (1980–1)
