1988 Dodge Shadow.jpg

Dodge Shadow (P-body/AP). 1987–94 (prod. 1,423,068 incl. Plymouth Sundance). 3- and 5-door sedan, 2-door convertible. F/F, 2213, 2501 cm³ (I4 OHC), 2972 cm³ (V6 OHC). K-car compact with an inch cut out of the wheelbase, Daytona suspension, and a more rounded body resembling the Dodge Lancer, originally destined to replace the Omni. Reportedly cost $600 million to develop, targeting first-time and female buyers. Notchback looks, but actually a hatchback. Carroll Shelby worked on CSX models, with turbo 2·2 developing 174 hp. Revised interior 1990. Convertible from 1991. Entry-level Shadow America from 1991. Three-litre replaced turbo 2·5 in 1992. Had Chrysler name in México and Europe. Unprofitable for Dodge, but attracted younger buyers to the brand. Twinned with Plymouth Sundance.

Manufacturing locations: Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA; Toluca, México

Marque: Dodge | Predecessors: Dodge Omni, Dodge Charger (1983–7), Renault Alliance | Successor: Dodge Neon (1995–9)
