Dodge Charger/Shelby Charger Turbo (L-body). 1983–7 (prod. 228,996). 3-door coupé. F/F, 1592 cm³ (I4 OHV), 1716, 2212 cm³ (I4 OHC). Charger tag applied to front-wheel-drive Omni-based coupé, with hotted-up Shelby versions featuring suspension and styling modifications. Advertisements cheekily proclaimed 0–50 mph times, rather than 0–60 mph. Volkswagen 1·7 replaced with 1·6 of Simca design during 1983 model year as supply ran out. Quad headlights for standard models from 1984. Shelby Turbo from 1985 (with no Plymouth equivalent). Additional model, Shelby Charger GLH-S in 1987, without a Dodge badge, delivering 174 hp.
