Daihatsu Fellow Max (L38). 1970–7 (prod. n/a). 2- and 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé, 3-door wagon. F/F, 356 cm³ (I2 2-str.), 547 cm³ (I2 OHC). Fellow moves to front-wheel drive for better packaging, now dubbed the Max. Front strut suspension, and semi-trailing arms at rear, making Fellow Max a better handler than contemporary Hondas. Basic engine with 33 PS, SS with 40 PS and twin carburettors. Wagon more like a Kammback version of the sedan. Hardtop coupé from 1971, with front disc brakes for top models. Instrument panel and grille altered for 1972. Four-door from 1972, with power output drops due to emissions’ regulations (now 31 PS and 37 PS). Mid-term changes 1973 with changes to front and rear, and a further facelift in 1975. Hardtop deleted in 1976, and 0·5 introduced.
