Daihatsu Consorte (EP30/EP31/EP40/EP47). 1969–77 (prod. 158,768). 2- and 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé. F/R, 958, 1166 cm³ (I4 OHV). Twin to Toyota Publica (P30) with different front and rear ends, launched after Daihatsu became part of an alliance with Toyota in 1967. Originally called Consorte Berlina. The one-litre engine was of Daihatsu’s own design, and not shared with Toyota. Instrument panel change in 1970, with round dials instead of strip; new three-piece grille. Front disc brakes for Super Deluxe model. The Toyota 3K 1·2 unit was added in 1971, good for 68 PS and 150 km/h. As with Publica, the two-door saloon gained more of a fastback with the 1972 mid-term change, and lengthened by 50 mm; the Berlina tag was dropped. May 1973 saw a Daihatsu Consorte-badged version of the Toyota Publica Starlet Coupé, and a four-door sedan, again from the Publica range, added in October. The four-door was short-lived with the launch of the Charmant, and was deleted in November 1974. Minor changes to engines and engine line-up thereafter to meet emissions’ regulations.
