OHC), 1799, 1998, 2198 cm³ (4 cyl. DOHC). Replacement for Opel Rekord E1-based Royale derivatives, even donning a V-letter development code inherited from GM. ItalDesign-styling based on a concept for Jaguar, scaled down accordingly. Despite lofty ambitions, really a well equipped (heated power mirrors among the features on some models) all-rounder that did nothing remarkable. Good ride but performance lacking, even among larger four-cylinder units. The two-litre OHC engine, usually the base one in export markets, noisy; 2·2 quieter.
