1979 Chrysler LeBaron Medallion.jpg

Chrysler LeBaron (M-body). 1977–81 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé, 5-door wagon. F/R, 3678 cm³ (I6 OHV), 5210, 5898 cm³ (V8 OHV). Essentially an upscale Dodge Aspen, with a poor reliability record in the first two model years. Poor handling with soft chassis. Six provided barely enough performance. Town and Country Wagons with fake wood panelling from 1978; base wagons from 1980. Largest 360 in³ unit dropped after 1978 model year. Refresh for 1980 with more formal appearance. Fifth Avenue appearance package with vinyl roof offered in 1981: it was a version of this that became the Chrysler New Yorker in 1982.

Manufacturing locations: St Louis, Missouri, USA; Newark, Delaware, USA; Tolucá, México

Marque: Chrysler | Model: Chrysler LeBaron | Successors: Chrysler LeBaron (1982–8), Chrysler New Yorker (1982)

q.v. Dodge Diplomat (1977–89), Plymouth Gran Fury (1982–9)
