1983 Chrysler E-class.jpg

Chrysler E Class. 1983–4 (prod. 71,495). 4-door sedan. F/F, 2213, 2555 cm³ (I4 OHC). Stretched K-car, marketed as an alternative to mid-sized German luxury saloons such as the BMW 5er-Reihe. Very roomy—on a par with the supposedly larger Dodge Diplomat (1977–89)—but far more economical as Chrysler shifted its range to front-wheel drive. Chrysler 2·2 (including turbocharged version) or Mitsubishi 2·6. Well equipped. Not that successful, as buyers opted for FWD New Yorker instead. Twinned with Dodge 600 and Plymouth Caravelle (1983–8).

Manufacturing location: USA

Marque: Chrysler | Predecessor: Chrysler Newport (1979–81) | Successor: Plymouth Caravelle (1983–8)
