1978 Chevrolet Monza.jpg

Chevrolet Monza (H-body). 1975–80 (prod. 718,290; other source lists 731,504). 2- and 3-door coupé, 3-door wagon. F/R, 140, 151 in³ (I4 OHC), 196, 231 in³ (V6 OHV), 262, 305 in³ (V8 OHV). Sporting version of Chevrolet Vega, which handled well and was pretty (three-door had a resemblance to the Ferrari 365 GTC/4), but dismal in most other areas. Unreliable and cramped. Meant to house GM’s Wankel unit, which never materialized. Original 140 in³ unit was troublesome, replaced by Pontiac Iron Duke 151 in³ from 1978 model year. Three-door 2+2 first, with two-door Towne Coupe from mid-1975, with different sheetmetal, to fight Ford Mustang II’s plush Ghia model. Vega wagon transferred to Monza line after the former’s demise, offered 1978–9.
