2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.jpg

Chevrolet Corvette Stingray (C7). 2014–19 (prod. n/a). 3-door coupé, 2-door convertible. F/R, 6162 cm³ (V8 OHV). Return of the Stingray moniker, for the first time since the ’70s. All change for the seventh generation, with stiffer hydroformed aluminium chassis, 99 lb lighter than that of C6. Carbonfibre for hood and removable roof, aiding balance—Stingray achieves 50–50 front and rear—and centre of gravity. V8 with 455 hp and 460 lb ft at launch, taking C7 to 60 mph in 3·8 seconds. Hugely improved interior. Outside, very busy styling, not quite as pure as recent generations. Very strong performance from V8; not quite as finessed as a Porsche in the steering and handling stakes, but in keeping with the more brutal image. Stiff ride, unless one opted for the Magnetic Ride Control. Excellent brakes. More high-tech, with five driving modes, and throttle response and steering weight among configurable features. Launch price at a whisker under US$52,000.

Manufacturing location: Bowling Green, Kentucky, USA
