1979 Buick Riviera.jpg

Buick Riviera. 1979–85 (prod. 370,282). 2-door coupé, 2-door convertible. F/F, 3792, 4129 cm³ (V6 OHV), 5033, 5737 cm³ petrol, 5737 cm³ diesel (V8 OHV). First front-drive Buick, as Riviera downsized, virtually identical now to Oldsmobile Toronado (1979–85) and Cadillac Eldorado (1979–85). Turbocharged V6 available from 1980. Sales rebounded with the smaller size. All-independent suspension aided handling, and switch to front-wheel drive helped with interior space. Trunk space down but still respectable. Convertible from 1982, a first for the Riviera line.

Manufacturing location: Linden, New Jersey, USA

Marque: Buick | Model: Buick Riviera | Predecessor: Buick Riviera (1977–8) | Successor: Buick Riviera (1986–8)
