Buick GS. 1968–72 (prod. n/a). 2-door coupé, 2-door hardtop coupé, 2-door convertible. F/R, 350, 400, 455 in³ (V8 OHV). Performance version of Skylark continued as a separate series. GS 350 with base V8, GS 400 at the top in 1968, generating 340 hp (SAE gross rating), reaching 60 mph in around 6 s. California GS had the smaller engine with the pillared coupé style. Hood blister for 1969, and functional scoops for GS 400; California GS had front vents akin to the Special Deluxe Coupé. Stage 1 package with high-lift cam and special carburettor took GS 400 output to 345 hp; Hurst shifter for four-speed manual. Refreshed for 1970; GS 455 replaced GS 400, with largest V8 taking power output to 350 hp; Stage 1 package saw this upped to 360 hp. Stage 2 was dealer-fitted and rare. Well equipped GSX package available from 1970. Last year for GS as a separate series in 1972; Gran Sport became a package on the 1973–5 Buick Century.
