Bentley began getting its identity back with Mulsanne. Initially a cheaper Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit, turbocharged model (1982–5) attempted to recall performance heritage and ‘Blower’ Bentleys. Modern Bentleys probably owe their existence to the Mulsanne: thanks to the turbo, Rolls-Royce began seeing the brand’s cachet again. Fuel injection from 1986; S from 1987 to 1992 had no turbocharger, but some of the Turbo’s trim details. Heavy car, bought for those wanting a fast, luxurious saloon. Turbo R effectively replaced Mulsanne Turbo in 1985; Brooklands took over Mulsanne’s role. Basic Bentley Eight spawned off this line in 1984.
Marque: Bentley | Predecessor: Bentley T2 | Successors: Bentley Brooklands (1992–7), Bentley Turbo R
