BMW 725i/BMW 728/BMW 728i/BMW 730/BMW 732i/BMW 733i/BMW 735i/BMW 745i (E23). 1977–86 (prod. 270,185; other source gives 285,029). 4-door saloon. F/R, 2494, 2788, 2985, 3205, 3210, 3430, 3453 cm³ (I6 OHC), 3453 cm³ (I6 DOHC). Large, neatly designed saloon from BMW, replacing E3. Very well equipped cars, with fuel injection standard from 1979, and optional ABS eventually becoming standard, too. Rare 725i for export only. Minor facelift in 1983, with front end becoming more upright. Turbocharged 745i equipped initially with 3205 cm³, later a 3430 cm³ unit, though South African-assembled 745is (prod. 209) had the M88 DOHC unit shared with the M635CSI. (South African assembly continued into 1987, based on German kits.)
