F/R, F/A, 1995 cm³ diesel, 1997, 1998 cm³ petrol (I4 DOHC), 2979, 2998 cm³ petrol, 2993 cm³ diesel (I6 DOHC). BMW abandons the 3-series moniker for the coupé based on the BMW 3er-Reihe (F30), instead calling it the 4-series. Styling more distinctive, and the car became wider, longer and lower than its predecessor. Very elegant, with creases on bonnet, and long bonnet–short deck proportions. Smooth engines, including twin-turbo tech on launch petrol models. Refined power delivery, sumptuous interior, excellent quality. Range mirrored 6’s, with coupé, cabriolet and five-door Gran Coupé (q.v.).
