A sacrilege as far as BMW traditionalists were concerned, being the brand’s first MPV as well as its first front-wheel-drive model. But then, there were doubts when BMW entered the SUV market. Styled as one would expect, with kidney grille and Hofmeister-Knick, and platform related to and engines shared with the Mini (F55, F56, F57). Roomy and practical, thanks to FWD layout, with particularly sumptuous interior. Torquey triples—the petrol 1·5 is particularly good—while twin-turbo 2·0 delivered 231 PS. Excellent handling.
