BMW 2000 SA.jpg

BMW 1800 GL/BMW 1800 SA/BMW 2000 SA. 1968–73 (prod. 6,716). 4-door saloon. F/R, 1767, 1990 cm³ (I4 OHC). South African-only model, built by various successive companies from tooling from Glas 1700 after the BMW takeover. No BMW kidney grille: the BMW roundel went where the Glas logo once did. Originally 1800 GL from July 1968, then 1800 SA. Two-litre model followed 1969. Sold in Rhodesia as the BMW Cheetah. Engines were of BMW, rather than Glas, design, and these and the gearboxes were shipped from Germany, while the rest of the car was locally made.

Manufacturing location: Rosslyn, South Africa

Marque: BMW | Successor: BMW 1804, 2004
