From AutocadeAustin A60. 1959–62 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/R, 1622 cm³ (I4 OHV). Australian version of Austin A55 Cambridge Mk II, but with an enlarged (in the bore), locally developed B-series engine—one that British management said couldn’t be done, but the Australian engineers persisted. Bigger carburettor, higher compression ratio, and 17 per cent more power than UK 1·5. Never that competitive in a market preferring sixes, but reasonably well made. First use of the A60 moniker for the Farina saloons—the badge and the engine would find its way into the Austin A60 Cambridge in the UK. Australian versions of the Morris Oxford V had the same 1·6 unit.
