1959 Austin A60.jpg

Austin A60. 1959–62 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/R, 1622 cm³ (I4 OHV). Australian version of Austin A55 Cambridge Mk II, but with an enlarged (in the bore), locally developed B-series engine—one that British management said couldn’t be done, but the Australian engineers persisted. Bigger carburettor, higher compression ratio, and 17 per cent more power than UK 1·5. Never that competitive in a market preferring sixes, but reasonably well made. First use of the A60 moniker for the Farina saloons—the badge and the engine would find their way into the A60 Cambridge in the UK in 1961. Australian versions of the Morris Oxford V had the same 1·6 unit.

Manufacturing location: Australia

Marque: Austin | Model: Austin A60 | Predecessor: Austin A55 Cambridge Mk I | Successor: Austin Freeway Mk I
