Aston Martin V8. 1972–89 (prod. 3,530 excluding Zagato and DBS). 2-door saloon, 2-door convertible. F/R, 5340 cm³ (V8 DOHC). Mainstay of Aston Martin range, developed from DBS V8 of 1969–72 but with two single headlamps. Usual high standards from hand-made assembly. First V8s called Series 2 and had fuel injection; carburettors for Series 3 from 1973 to 1978. Difficulties at Aston Martin meant no 1975 production. Series 4 (Oscar India series, the name derived from the term October Introduction) with bonnet bulge from 1978 to 1985; fuel injection for last models to 1989. Convertible called Volante as with earlier Astons, launched 1978; sporting version (V540) called Vantage, launched 1977.
