Aston Martin Lagonda. 1974–6 (prod. 7). 4-door saloon. F/R, 5340 cm³ (V8 DOHC). Beautiful and rare Lagonda for the 1970s, designed by William Towns, and clearly based on the V8 with longer wheelbase (2,915 mm) and body (4,928 mm). Unique grille design with homage to old Lagonda grilles. Based on a prototype for David Brown from 1969, codenamed MP230. On launch in 1974, priced at £14,000—a substantial sum in its day. Claimed top speed of 160 mph. Launched in the wake of the fuel crisis and amid troubles at Newport Pagnell as company placed in administration in 1974; consequently, only seven made. Eighth superstructure and chassis at factory finally completed in 2007.
