Alfa Romeo 90. 1984–6 (prod. 56,428). 4-door saloon. F/R, 1779, 1962 cm³ (4 cyl. DOHC), 1997, 2493 cm³ (V6 DOHC), 2393 cm³ diesel (4 cyl. OHC). Bertone gave the Alfa Romeo Alfetta an extensive makeover, with crisp ’80s detailing, and electronically adjustable front spoiler. Alfa Romeo fitted the wonderful V6 in 2- and 2·5-litre forms in export markets, and a range of classic four-cylinder twin-cams for the home market. Amazingly short-lived range-topper considering the investment Alfa Romeo put into it. Running to expectations, the 90 failed to sell in any great numbers—especially outside of Italy—despite the dubious joys of an LED segmented tachometer, integrated dashboard mounted briefcase, and speed adjustable front spoiler. And it had all the hallmarks of a desperate stop-gap …
