Alfa Romeo 159 (Progetto 939). 2005–11 (prod. n/a). 4-door saloon, 5-door estate. F/F, F/A, 1742, 1796, 1859, 2198 cm³ petrol, 1910, 1956 cm³ diesel (I4 DOHC), 2387 cm³ diesel (I5 DOHC), 3195 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Giugiaro sharpens up Alfa’s entry in the CD-segment, with an attractive saloon and estate (dubbed Sportwagon) to replace the 156. Shown at Genève in 2005. On the GM–Fiat Premium platform, intended for a larger car, which led to 159’s (and Brera’s) weight. Safe and refined, with excellent grip; new rear suspension. Direct steering, and comfortable ride. Tyre roar due to low-profile tyres. V6 tends to be thirsty. No immediate successor when cancelled in 2011.

Manufacturing location: San Giorgio Canavese, Torino, Italy

Marque: Alfa Romeo | Predecessor: Alfa Romeo 156 | Successor: Alfa Romeo Giulia (952)
