Walter Schätzle had assembled Borgward Isabellas from parts after that company collapsed, but when a court order prevented that, he established Automobilwerk Walter Schätzle (AWS) and purchased Goggomobil parts from BMW. With a factory in West Berlin, AWS built a steel tube spaceframe-based car called the Shopper, with a companion utility model called the Piccolo. The company went insolvent in 1974.
