1979 AMC Spirit DL Liftback.jpg

AMC Spirit/VAM Gremlin/VAM Rally. 1979–83 (prod. n/a). 3-door sedan, 3-door coupé. F/R, 1984 cm³ (I4 OHC), 2472 cm³ (I4 OHV), 3801, 4229, 4616 cm³ (I6 OHV), 4980 cm³ (V8 OHV). Rebodied Gremlin, with much better quality and styling, but still cramped inside. Volkswagen engine for 1979, replaced by Pontiac Iron Duke for 1980. Poor ride and average mileage given the car’s weight. AMX for 1979 and 1980, with V8 only for 1979, the last time a factory V8 would be installed in an AMC car. Four-wheel-drive models based on the Spirit were part of the AMC Eagle range.

Manufacturing locations: Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA; Brampton, Ontario, Canada; Ciudad de México, México

Marque: AMC | Predecessor: AMC Gremlin
