AMC Matador Coupé.jpg

AMC Matador. 1974–8 (prod. 242,507, incl. 94,468 coupé). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon, 2-door coupé. F/R, 232, 258 in³ (I6 OHV), 304, 360, 401 in³ (V8 OHV). Development of 1971–3 models, but fastback coupé with unique sheetmetal replaced two-door hardtop. Facelift included Federal 5 mph bumpers and what some term the ‘coffin nose’. Mostly reliable, though 1974s had poor gas mileage and electrical glitches. Coupés tended to rust more, but are considered more collectible today. Smallest six deleted after 1975, largest V8 after 1976. Oleg Cassini “designer edition” coupé available for 1974 and 1975; Barcelona trim in 1976, Barcelona II for remaining years.
