Škoda Superb. 2001–8 (prod. 44,708 for 2006 only, including Roomster). 4-door saloon. F/F, 1781, 1984 cm³ petrol, 1896, 1968 cm³ diesel (4 cyl. OHC), 2771 cm³ petrol, 2496 cm³ diesel (V6 DOHC). Czech rebody of Red Chinese long-wheelbase Volkswagen Passat, developed for the Czech president—it was felt a stretched Octavia was not fitting. Very roomy—reported to have more legroom than a Mercedes-Benz S-Klasse at launch—and very cheap, although dynamically not much different from Passat. Favoured not just by one president, but by British minicab drivers who appreciate the space and value; excellent fuel economy from diesels. Mild facelift 2006; Laurin & Klement trim added that year, harking back to one of Škoda’s forebears. Central section of Superb adapted to Shanghai Volkswagen Passat Lingyu in November 2005 for the Chinese market.

Manufacturing location: Kvasiny, Czech Republic

Marque: Škoda | Model: Škoda Superb | Successor: Škoda Superb (2008–)
