Opel Kadett E/Vauxhall Astra Mk II/Vauxhall Belmont/Chevrolet Kadett/Chevrolet Ipanema. 1984–98 (prod. unknown). 3-, 4- and 5-door saloon, 3- and 5-door estate, 2-door convertible. F/F, 1196 cm³ (4 cyl. OHV), 1297, 1389, 1598, 1796, 1998 cm³ petrol, 1598, 1686 cm³ diesel (4 cyl. OHC), 1998 cm³ (4 cyl. DOHC). Last Kadett in Europe, though the name did live on for one more generation in South Africa. An aerodynamic-looking model to suit the 1980s (GSi had Cd of 0,30, the lowest in its class), on a new platform. European Car of the Year for 1984–5. Attractive body styles dated well and were still being made by Daewoo till 2006, though as Opels, production stopped in 1993 (for the Bertone convertible; other models were replaced by Opel Astra F in 1991). Famous for hot hatch 16-valve two-litre GSi version. Other than GSi, which had a competition history, not known for dynamics. Also sold as Chevrolet Kadett (South America, from 1989), Chevrolet Ipanema (estate version, South America), Vauxhall Astra Mk II (UK), Daewoo Le Mans, Daewoo Cielo and Daewoo Racer. Booted models called Chevrolet Monza in South Africa and Vauxhall Belmont in UK. (The Daewoos, covered separately, were exported as Pontiac Le Mans and Passport Optima to USA and Canada.)
