From AutocadeVolkswagen Quantum (B2). 1984–2002 (prod. 548,494, incl. Brazilian Santana). 5-door wagon. F/F, 1781, 1984 cm³ (I4 OHC). Brazilian version of the Volkswagen Passat Variant, badged Quantum to distinguish it from Santana sedan. Successful in Brazil, competing principally with the Chevrolet Monza (1982–96). Well equipped. The 1985 German refresh made its way to Brazil in 1987. To address criticisms that Monza had better performance, the Quantum 2000 was introduced in 1988 (with the Santana). Major restyling in 1992, bringing Quantum closer to appearance to Passat (B4), a year after the same facelift was applied to Santana, and improving aerodynamics. Further changes under the skin in 1996 and a price cut in 1997 to compete with the new Chevrolet Vectra, along with equipment upgrades; range trimmed soon after.
