The Volkswagen Käfer was nicknamed fusca in Brazil, but in 1983, it adopted the name officially for the model. It was built in two lots: from 1983 to 1986, as a continuation of the earlier line; then it was revived when the Brazilian government decreed that an affordable vehicle be available—a people’s car, if you will.
