VAZ 2106 (ВАЗ-2106). 1975–2006 (prod. 4,300,000 approx.). 4-door saloon. F/R, 1294, 1452, 1568 cm³ (I4 OHC). Modernized VAZ 2103, with longer-stroke engine producing more torque. Originally developed as project 21031. Reduced chrome and metal parts, and upgraded lighting, all done at minimal cost. Height-adjustable headrests inside, heated rear window, rear fog lamp, and other improvements. First car completed 1975, but mass production only took off in February 1976. Minor improvements through the very long run. Production initially at Togliatti, later at Izhevsk. Exported usually as Lada 1600.
