2019 Toyota Yaris Hybrid.jpg

Toyota Yaris/Mazda 2 (XP210/KSP210/MXPA10/MXPH10). 2019 to date (prod. n/a). 3- and 5-door sedan. F/F, F/A, 996, 1490, 1618 cm³ petrol, 1490 cm³ petrol–electric hybrid (I3 DOHC). Ground-up redesign for fourth-generation Yaris, with Japan taking on the formerly export-only model name. Back to a European design, on GA-B platform. Exterior design modelled around a black bean. In Europe, lower (but without significant reduction in headroom, according to Toyota), wider (by 50 mm), and longer wheelbase, but overall length down 5 mm, keeping Yaris at under 4 m long. In Japan, Yaris was kept in class 5, keeping the width at 1,700 mm. Improved rigidity thanks to the new platform. Central airbag between driver and passenger. Optional head-up display. Hybrid with lithium-ion battery pack, lighter than its predecessor’s nickel metal hydride one, a 50 kg saving. Wider track, and stiffer rear torsion beam, aiding handling and ride, with Toyota aiming for more of a driver’s car than a family supermini. Also badge-engineered for Europe as the Mazda 2 Hybrid from 2021, selling alongside Mazdaʼs own 2 models.
