Toyota Land Cruiser (J70). 1984 to date (prod. n/a). 2- and 4-door utility, with two rear doors; 2-door LWB utility, with two rear doors, 2-door convertible. F/A, 2367 cm³ petrol, 2446, 2982 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 2494 cm³ diesel (I5 OHV), 2693 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 2986, 4164 cm³ diesel (I6 OHC), 3431 cm³ diesel (I4 OHV), 3470 cm³ diesel (I5 OHC), 3955, 3980 cm³ diesel (I6 OHV), 3956 cm³ (V6 DOHC), 4461 cm³ diesel (V8 DOHC), 4476 cm³ (I6 DOHC). Tough, simple but dated off-roader, a more modern interpretation of the smaller 40 series. Five wheelbases for commercial models; only civilian passenger models detailed here. Very capable and known for its reliability. Ladder frame, with rigid axle and leaf springs initially, front axle changed to coils originally for 1985 LJ71G Wagon, then across range in 1999. Japanese production to 2004 but revived in 2014 for a year to commemorate 30th anniversary and due to consumer demand, and equipped with 1GR-FE DOHC V6. Also known as Land Cruiser II. Light-duty models renamed Prado in 1990.
