Toyota GT 86.jpg

Toyota 86 (ZN6). 2012 to date (prod. n/a). 2-door coupé. F/R, 1998 cm³ (F4 DOHC). Toyota names as coupé after its famed AE86-type Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno, iconic cars in Japan. Previewed with FT-86 show car in 2009. A break from other Toyotas, with driving pleasure being a focus: lightweight and a low centre of gravity in its brief. Co-developed with and built by Subaru, which sells its version as the BRZ. The companies were insistent that 86 not be designed by committee. Sold as Scion FR-S in North America, exported usually as GT86. Very driver-focused and met with rave reviews at launch thanks to excellent handling, engine and very good ride, with only some cabin trim and perceived quality issues. Cabin entry not the easiest, but considered a small sacrifice for a sports car. North America followed the Japanese name from model year 2017 on after the Scion brand was retired.

Manufacturing location: Ōta, Gunma, Japan

Marque: Toyota | Predecessor: Toyota Celica (T230)
