Toyota 2000 GT. 1967–70 (prod. 337). 3-door coupé. F/R, 1988 cm³ (I6 DOHC), 2253 cm³ (I6 OHC). Possibly one of the most legendary motor cars in Japanese automotive history, created when designers and engineers were given free reign to do what they wanted. Shown at Tokyo in 1965, and built from 1967 to 1970. Yamaha did much of the engineering work and built the cars. Engine based on the two-litre unit from the Crown, but reworked with DOHC; nine were built with the 2·3. Albrecht Görtz is usually credited with the design, but it is the work of Satoru Nozaki. Low-slung body only 116 cm high. Two convertibles made for James Bond film You Only Live Twice, but never offered for sale to the public.
