Suzuki Escudo (TA74W/TD54W/TD94W/TDA4W/TDB4W/JT). 2005–22 (prod. n/a). 3- and 5-door SUV. F/R, F/A, 1586, 1995, 2393 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1870 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 2736, 3195 cm³ (V6 DOHC). New platform, now a monocoque with a ladder frame welded to the floorpan. Longer and wider than before, though interior storage not the best. Larger 2·4 from 2008, when range facelifted with new front bumper and grille. Further refresh in 2012. Well equipped, and more car-like to drive. Direct steering, with good handling, with MacPherson struts at front; independent multi-link at rear. Ride bumpy on-road; still capable off-road. Exported as Grand Vitara. Renamed Escudo 2·4 in Japan when Hungarian-built Vitara was launched there as the Escudo in 2015. Japanese production to 2017.
